Privacy

Frostreads stores account details, imported stories, and translation settings. This notice explains what Frostreads stores and why.

Who is responsible

Winter, an individual based in the United States, operates Frostreads and is responsible for deciding how your personal information is used. For privacy questions, contact support@frostreads.com.

Data Frostreads stores

  • Account information: your name, email, securely hashed password, optional passkey records, the Google or Discord account you sign in with (its account ID, name, email, and profile picture), sign-in sessions, and terms acceptance. Sessions may include your IP address and browser or device details. Frostreads does not collect identity documents or your birth date when you confirm that you are 18 or older.
  • Library information: imported links, stories, images, reading progress, glossaries, translation instructions and results, saved versions, and preferences.
  • Service records: notification delivery, account verification and password reset requests, usage, billing, support requests, and information needed to diagnose errors and prevent abuse. Usage includes the dates you use Frostreads while signed in, without the pages you visit, your IP address, or your device.

Bug reports and feedback

When you report a bug, Frostreads saves your message, the page you reported from, and, when reporting from a chapter reader, your approximate position through the chapter. Reports also include browser and operating-system information supplied by your browser, viewport dimensions, interface language, relevant reader display settings, whether you were viewing original or translated text, and available translation details such as quality mode, model, languages, version, progress, and error codes. Frostreads records its application version, timestamps, and up to five recent error categories without copying error messages, stack traces, or console logs. This context helps Winter locate, reproduce, and fix the problem. The saved page path excludes query strings and fragments. Bug reports and general feedback are private; feature suggestions may appear publicly after review. Connected automated reviewers may receive report messages and this diagnostic context to investigate bugs or evaluate feedback. Reports are treated as data, and automated fixes are reviewed before release.

To investigate a bug you report, Winter and automated reviewers may also read your Frostreads account records related to the problem, such as your library, reading progress, translations, glossary, usage, and the chapter text involved. Personal details are not copied into code changes or public issues.

Unsent messages are saved as drafts in your browser until you submit them or clear Frostreads' site data. Bug report drafts also keep their page and approximate reading position and diagnostic context so you can return to a report without losing its context.

How Frostreads uses information

Frostreads uses this information to run and secure your account, import and translate your library, save your preferences, manage subscriptions and usage limits, and send alerts you enable. It also uses records to answer requests, diagnose errors, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations. Winter reviews account activity in aggregate, such as how many new accounts import a novel, read a chapter, or come back on a later day, to improve how Frostreads gets new readers started.

Where European data protection law applies, providing the service relies on performing our contract with you. Security and error diagnosis rely on Frostreads' legitimate interests in running a reliable service, balanced against your rights. Required tax records and disclosures rely on legal obligations. Where processing relies on consent, you can withdraw it without affecting earlier lawful processing. Turn off optional alerts in notification settings.

Sharing a novel

Creating a share link lets anyone with that link read the novel's available translated content after signing in to Frostreads. You can revoke the link in the novel's sharing dialog. Revocation stops future access through that link, but cannot remove copies another person has already saved.

Copyright complaints

Frostreads uses reports, contact details, and correspondence to handle copyright complaints and disputes. Relevant details may be shared with the other party, including contact information in a qualifying DMCA counter-notice. Records may remain after account deletion to resolve disputes, address repeat infringement, or meet legal obligations. See copyright complaints.

Cookies and browser storage

Frostreads currently uses only storage required for authentication, security, saved preferences, and shared-novel reading progress. Frostreads does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Frostreads does not build advertising profiles from your activity across other websites. Some covers and chapter illustrations load directly from their source websites. Those hosts receive your IP address and browser request information and may recognize your browser across sites under their own practices. Frostreads requests these images without sending the referring page URL. Stripe and Link apply their own privacy practices when you visit their payment and account-management pages.

Service providers

  • Cloudflare hosts and protects Frostreads, stores account and library data, handles source connections, routes AI requests, and delivers emails. It processes the data needed for these services, including IP addresses and browser information. Account emails contain your email address and verification or reset links; chapter alerts contain the novel title and number of available chapters.
  • Google and Discord confirm your identity when you choose to sign in with them, and share your account ID, name, email, and profile picture with Frostreads. Frostreads does not post to those accounts or read anything else from them.
  • OpenAI processes translations and other AI tasks. Requests can include chapter text, titles, author names, tags, synopses, glossary entries, and your instructions. It may also process submitted feedback and bug-report diagnostics for automated investigation and feature evaluation. Frostreads disables optional request storage, caching, and content logging for direct translation requests. Feedback shared with connected reviewers, and provider retention for security or other purposes, follow those providers' own policies.
  • Anthropic runs Claude, which investigates bug reports and prepares fixes. It can receive bug reports, their diagnostic context, and the account records described above for the reported problem.
  • Sentry receives error reports when something fails in Frostreads, in your browser or on its servers. A report contains the error message and stack trace, the page address, browser and operating-system details, the application version, and recent technical events such as page loads and failed requests. Frostreads does not send your name, email, or IP address with these reports, and does not record your screen or reading sessions.
  • Stripe processes payments, billing details, and tax information. Frostreads uses relevant billing records to manage subscriptions and meet accounting obligations. See billing and cancellation.

When you connect a source account, Frostreads sends the login details you enter to that source through its server. It does not save your source username, email, password, or verification answers. It keeps an encrypted session and necessary browser details so it can import content your account can access. Pending login verification data, including a challenge image where needed, is kept for up to ten minutes. Disconnecting removes the saved session and pending verification; limits on repeated login attempts may remain briefly.

If you use the Frostreads browser extension, it fetches only the source pages Frostreads asks for while you import, using your own browser's sign-in to that site, and sends those pages to Frostreads to read the novel and chapter. The extension runs only on frostreads.com and the supported source sites. It does not read or send your source password, cookies or browsing history. Frostreads saves the imported chapters like any other import and does not keep the fetched pages.

Frostreads does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or needed to protect Frostreads and its users.

International processing

Winter operates from the United States. Frostreads and its providers may process information outside your country, including outside the European Economic Area. Frostreads does not promise EU-only storage or processing. You can contact Winter for information about processing locations and the safeguards applicable to your data.

Retention and your choices

Frostreads keeps account and library data while your account is active or as needed to operate and secure the service. Connected source sessions last up to 30 days and end sooner if you disconnect, delete your account, or the source expires them. You can clear browser storage through your browser settings; durations are listed above.

See your data and privacy rights for access, correction, export, deletion, restriction, objection, and complaint options. You can also email support@frostreads.com. Available rights depend on the law that applies to you.

Withdrawal requests

The withdrawal form records your name, email, contract details, declaration, and submission time. Frostreads provides a downloadable receipt, emails an acknowledgment, and notifies Winter. It temporarily stores a hashed network identifier to limit automated submissions. Request records remain separate from your account for handling the request, billing obligations, or disputes, including after account deletion. Contact Winter about access or deletion.

Account deletion

Delete your account in account settings using your account email and password, or a recent sign-in if you use Google or Discord. Stop subscription renewal first. Deletion may pause while Frostreads verifies billing or a payment is processing; you do not need to wait for your paid period to end. Deleting an account does not itself cancel a subscription. See billing and cancellation, or contact Winter if you cannot use these controls.

Deletion removes your account, credentials, sessions, and associated library data, including uploaded covers. Frostreads also tries to clear saved settings from the browser used for deletion. Frostreads cannot restore your account.

Billing, tax, complaint, and dispute records may remain where needed. Frostreads also keeps usage totals and AI request records for costs and diagnostics. These lose their account association and contain no email address or chapter text, but retain request identifiers, model names, times, token counts, costs, and status. They are not necessarily anonymous. Deleted data may remain in recovery backups for up to 30 days, outside the live service.

People under 18

Frostreads is intended only for people aged 18 or older. If you believe someone under 18 has created an account or provided personal information, contact support@frostreads.com so Frostreads can investigate and address the account and any information that should be deleted. Any legally required retention follows the practices described in this notice.
